Quick fix

Make sure the printer is on and connected to the same network as your computer, restart the printer and computer, clear stuck jobs from the print queue, and if needed remove and re-add the printer.

Step by step

  1. Check the printer

Make sure it’s on, has paper and shows no error message on its screen.

  2. Check the connection

On a Wi-Fi printer, print a network or Wi-Fi status page from the printer’s menu and confirm it’s on the same network as your computer. If you changed your Wi-Fi name or password recently, the printer needs to be reconnected.

  3. Restart the printer and computer

Turn the printer off, wait 30 seconds and turn it on. Restart the computer too.

  4. Clear the print queue

Windows: Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the printer and open the print queue, then cancel stuck jobs. Mac: System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select the printer and open the print queue.

  5. Remove and re-add the printer

In the same settings screen, remove the printer, then add it again. Choose the printer by its name on the network.

  6. Update the driver or app

Install the printer maker’s latest software or app if Windows or macOS doesn’t find it.
