Quick fix
Cover the cracks with clear tape or a screen protector, back up the phone right away, and check your warranty or insurance before paying for a repair. Stop using it if the phone is swollen, hot or the screen is flickering badly.
Step by step
Protect your fingers
Put clear packing tape or a screen protector over the cracks so glass doesn’t cut you or spread.
Back up now
A cracked screen can stop responding without warning. Back up while the touchscreen still works. See back up your phone.
Check for other damage
If the phone gets hot, the back is bulging, or it smells of smoke, power it off and don’t charge it. Get it inspected.
Check coverage
Look up your manufacturer warranty, any extended protection plan, your carrier’s insurance or your credit card benefits before paying out of pocket.
Choose the repair
Options include the manufacturer, an authorized service provider, your carrier, or an independent repair shop. Ask about part quality, the warranty on the repair and whether water resistance is restored.
Prepare the phone
Before handing it over, make sure your backup is complete, remove a physical SIM if asked, and know your passcode and account password.
